Hello computer,

We do seem to be doing better this morning.

Yesterday marked the end of my mom’s chemotherapy. Turns out they were a few things on back the ranch which once again made me get out of their leaders and I had originally anticipated. So it took quite a bit longer than I had hoped, but that ultimately falls on me.

She does seem to be doing well with her new roommate, which is a good thing. With that in mind I’m getting ready to go back to San Francisco earlier than I had originally planned. Apparently, the facility where my mom is staying is planning on starting to have family nights, which will hopefully give me an opportunity to say what I think about the management. The lack of communication and basic information available to the people actually working there is very poor and compromises the staff’s ability to do a very difficult job.

The next issue that I’m going to have to start dealing with is what to say about what has happened to my mom over the past few months. Halloween was a true horror story and I definitely have to think about how I’m going to handle that.

It’s one thing to talk about my ballistic diarrhea; it’s something else again to discuss some of the things that are going on with her. I am actually wrestling with shame, something that I did not previously believe possible.

Digging out from under

by Gavin Impett
January 11th, 2009

I came back to San Diego to move my mom into a new room.  This went much better than expected.  This is the second time she was supposed to have a roommate, the first time did not work out as far as I can tell due to the simple fact that the management failed to let me know what was going on.

So while they told her she was getting her roommate this really didn’t mean anything but a she’s in a memory care unit.  Any way the bottom line is I move Turkey into the new room without incident and everything seems to be going smoothly.  This means I will be able to go back to San Francisco sooner and find her  a place closer to me.

The good thing about it is the weather is quite nice right now, so driving up on a motorcycle should make for a nice trip.

The goal is to move her up to where I’m living fairly soon.  One of the problems with the place where she is at is they haven’t put any restriction on her eating and she’s put about 20 pounds back on since been there. This is not a good thing.

She does look like she’s getting a little more confused, but that could be the direct result of moving her into the new room, so her orientation is off.  Other than that, she’s doing well and is good spirits.

You can go back to the green

by Gavin Impett
December 23rd, 2008

I was in the El Cajon Best Buy and they were playing Billy Joel’s Italian restaurant – a song that always makes me wonder if Americans stopped making music after I graduated high school. It’s not a rhetorical question, I belong to a kind of neo-fascistic, Anglophonic ear cult, that requires unquestioning allegiance to all things Brit music with the exception of Handel’s Messiah. AC/DC gets a pass as two of its founding members are right Scottish gits, but U2 and Men at Work are a bit too foreign to my ears. Guns’n'Roses, has a new album out? And this is somehow supposed to make me want to stop listening to the new Queen Album (+Paul Rogers, of course). Sheer rot.

I crossed the street to what used to be Parkway Plaza and I somewhat saw Billy’s point,  listened to some horrible American music over the PA, (something about the difficulties involved in attempting sexual intercourse with a drunk, underage, girl, still in her jeans(ah, yes country music) when Nancy Henderson came up to me.

And it turns out she is involved in planning the 30th Santana High School reunion.   So if you stumbled in here from classmates because I’m too cheap a swine to pay their monthly extortion, Go Sultans. I’ll put up a legit picture at some point so you can assess the damage.

Right now, my sites are down, which as it turns out is a good thing. Nancy gave me a tour of the new improved Santee, the Christmas light show was brilliant, and the classbook site which indicates many of you are still alive.

I’ve written on at length in the hopes of convincing you that I am indeed me and not that other gavin impett. I say this because I’ve had at least one friend who couldn’t be bothered to look me up in his phone book  believe I couldn’t be that gavin impett, because of the kitty single thing – since it’s down right now – basically me hanging out videoing pussy.  It’s not as porny as it sounds.  I’m thinking of changing  it Kittyporn.edu  as this makes it sound more thoughtful.

Anyway, it’s me.

Moviememe email lives again

by Gavin Impett
December 17th, 2008

My long lamented email is starting to return to life. Dunno when I’ll get the time to get the actual site up and running, I can see I already want to re-design it and the wpremix theme is not making my life any easier right now.  I had a couple of days to work on the site and was just in time to see the entire thing come down on its head. Sigh. I think it will be fixed, but so it goes.

The return of the slog

by Gavin Impett
December 12th, 2008

In the process of learning how to build this site, I managed to break it a couple of times. Anyway, I know some of you are looking for updates about my mum’s condition and I’ve been generally appalling about getting the word out. Things are starting to settle down enough that I can think about long term plans for her, which is a good thing, since when I started, it was straight into a hospice.

After talking to a couple more docs, it is beginning to look like her primary care doc probably blew the diagnosis beyond what I had previously come to understand. I had thought that her mental deterioration because of her stroke was more or less the same as an Alzheimer’s diagnosis – meaning that there is ultimately nothing the doc could do. But it is starting to look like the stroke may have been avoided if the doc had done his job. I’m still a bit numb over that one, but it is what it is.

In other news, I’ve begun to get some of the web-site mess sorted out and my moviememe address should come back to life shortly.

And it is looking more and more like I’ve lost my main phone book, so if you email, a phone number would be appreciated.

A Short Recount of the Story So Far

by Gavin Impett
December 7th, 2008

The story so far.

On or about June 17th my mum had a stroke that primarily affected her memory and judgement. While this was happening, I was away for the weekend and basically out of touch in the wilds of Sonoma’s wine country. Weirdly, my upstairs neighbor was a featured soloist at the concert I attended.

When I came back, I learned she was in the hospital, they thought she had aphasia, and in addition to the stroke she had ovarian cancer.

By the following Tuesday, when I arrived in San Diego, she was declared ineligible for treatment because of the aphasia. My mum is deaf and has a cochlear implant. I changed the batteries on the device and she was able to hear me. I plugged a microphone into the device, she became instantly responsive and eligible for treatment.

She went to a rehab clinic for a week after which, I took care of her until she had her ovarian surgery. What I was supposed to be doing was moving to a new web host and rebuilding my site. Anyway, my primary email account, crashed as a result of this. My fault, just got a little overwhelmed.

After the nightmare and ongoing battle with Kaiser over the administration of her surgery, I moved her into a board and care facility, California Home for Seniors, which did an excellent job for her, but unfortunately, Mavis (me mum) has a tendency to wander and needs to be in a locked facility.

So I moved her by way of Scrips which turned into a true horror story, and she is now residing in Oakdale Hights in La Mesa. As life would have it, the place where she is living is on Lake Murry Blvd. which turns into 70th st. once you cross Hwy. 8.  70th St. and El Cajon Blvd. is where we first lived when imigrating to America. The building is no longer there, but the dental building where I was  physically tortured by a Christian is still there.  I’ve been dealing with a lot of Christians lately. It’s a beautiful world.
